A Summer of Art, Family and Friends

Our summers in Manila has always been unforgettable. This summer, in particular, was one I have to write about. I thoroughly enjoyed it because we did a lot of things that I loved.

Like most summer days, the kids and I stayed at home. We watched movies, swam and simply spent time together. We also developed a love for going to the arcade.

Cayenne, Tajmahal and me. ๐Ÿ™‚

When my best friend Taj and her daughter Cayenne went to visit, we reenacted what they did the last time the three kids were together. They danced.

Later on, we went to Tom’s World and played one of their games which really placed a dent in my pocket. However, it was worth it. We all had fun and simply had a great time together.

The kids also went swimming and simply played together while Taj and I talked and talked.

It was a wonderful time spent with my beautiful single mom friend. Yes, she is still single. Just like me! ๐Ÿ™‚ Don’t wonder why because we also don’t know why nobody is interested in us! We are awesome! Hahahaha!

As I mentioned before, we played some games and quizzes on the TV and here are some results of my answers. I was very satisfied with them because it described me perfectly!

On a special day, we also visited my sister Anna Carmela. I miss her very much. She really was the best among us. She was so strong, kind and generous. She was a beautiful person and how I wish she was still here with us. However, I know she lives in our hearts. Forever.

The siblings. Complete.

Now, painting is something I love doing. When I do have the time, I like getting lost in the world of colors and imagination. This time, my sister Monina showed us a cute way of painting over Pokemon cards. So here are some of our artwork.

I really had fun doing these things with them. Family time is really something to treasure. Memories that we create remind us that our lives should be lived with love, laughter and joy.

For the love of Song Seung Heon

saimdang-lights-diaryThis is not a post about Song Seung Heon.

Ok, I lied.

I am currently watching the K-drama, Saimdang, becuase of him.

It has been a while since I have set aside an hour or so in a day, to watch K-drama. For the past few years, I have been more engrossed with manga and anime. The last K-drama I watched was My Love from Another Star. I thoroughly enjoyed that.

Now, that my love from another region in Asia is back, I can only look forward to the times I can use the laptop and watch an episode or two on it. Somehow, they removed the English subtitles on the episodes on Youtube and thus, I had to do some searches online to finally get a streaming of the episodes.

Overall, I liked the plot. I thought that it would be your typical flashbacks but no, I was captivated by Saimdang of the past and truly awed by the present Saimdang. So far, I liked that the present Saimdang is facing almost the same dire circumstances as the past Saimdang and how both characters are doing their best to overcome their problems.

But beyond that, I love watching Song Seung Heon act. His character is even a bit of a mystery still.

So for art lovers, this K-drama is a find. It has paintings, poetry and valuable lessons on life and even in love.

I’m now on episode 11. Well, I’m about to begin it so until, next time.

I heart Webtoons!

For the past few weeks, I have been addicted to manhwa webtoons. These are much like manga however, you scroll them down as you read along. Plus, they are all in colored pages!

Here’s a list of my current reading list. I highly recommend them all!

  • Girls of the Wild’s – The story is about a young guy who got into an all-gilrs school. However, it was a school wherein you learn how to fight and fight well. It’s very much harem type but it has lots of action and comedy. I love how awkward Queen gets as she falls in love and the other characters are truly good. I was caught up in all the action and I love the fact that the girls are awesome fighters. It’s like Charlie’s Angels in high school.

    The Queen Bee!

  • Orange Marmalade – I got curious about this story because it involves a vampire no longer feeding on human blood but on pigs’ blood. An accidental meeting sparked between the lovers in the story. Yes, this could just be another vampire-human tandem but this is a drama that can make you rethink of why discrimination exists.

    Love vs Race

  • Dice– One of the most interesting reads I had so far. I have always liked rooting for the underdog and the hero of this story is really pitiful. However, it is a journey of dreams, desires and wishes we all harbor and if given the chance to make them come true, what will you be capable of doing? Read this if you want to know the answer.

    I want DICE!!!

  • Where Tangents Meet – A cute love story between an airhead and a cynic. I liked the simplicity of the story and even the side stories of minor characters. It would be nice if there’s a season 2 to find out how their love progressed as they mature in life.

  • Tower of God – This is an action filled journey that begins with a boy named 25th Bam. He is pure and innocent and he slowly changed as he goes up the Tower. The story is full of twists and subplots that can keep you glued on your device. There’s betrayal, comedy, tragedy, friendship and more! One of the best out there!

He looks more handsome with his long hair!

  • unTOUCHable – Here’s another vampire but this time, instead of blood, they have evolved to live on human touch. The heroine began to get attracted to a guy who hates being touched and hates dirt. This is a fun-filled story that chronicles their love. Truly adorable!

  • Noblesse – This is basically the origin of all the vampires! Seriously, hot guys who fight and don’t actually drink blood (I still don’t know how they survive), mutants and typical high school students who get into trouble over and over again! I love this webtoon because the characters stay true to their natures and comedic lines make each chapter endearing. There’s also a spin-off on Rai with his adventure before waking up after 820 years. A must-read!

    I love Rai!!!

  • Cheese in the Trap – I’m still on the fence with this webtoon. Sometimes it’s interesting and other times, it drags on. Maybe it’s because it accurately draws much from life. The heroine is so-so and the hero may appear perfect but he’s not. It’s a twisted story that lets you try to psychoanalyze each person’s action. Yet, I keep on reading it because I want to find out how they would all end up in the end.

I’m trapped in their weird world.

I’m pretty sure I’ll soon write about other webtoons because there are a lot of interesting stories out there like Siren’s Lament, Heroine Chic and Aisopos. I subscribed for them but haven’t began reading them yet. I have my hands full with my current reading list.

    Reading is fun!!!

Painting in Summer

Our creativity was sparked by Kandinsky‘s circles. I guided the kids to make different sizes of circles and to use the color wheel to paint them. We also copied a painting of a skyline which was really nice because I got to witness how the kids did their best to make the skyline of buildings and houses.

The kids also created letter decors for their moms for Mothers’ Day. It was quite messy but extremely fun as I allowed them to decorate the letters of their own design.

We also tried our best to copy Ton Shulten‘s landscapes. We began with creating two curved horizontal lines. Then I asked them to draw vertical lines across them unequally. Then I asked them to draw vertical lines to create the houses, small squares for doors and windows and trees.

We decided to color the houses and the surrounding areas using warm colors and then the trees and the sky using cool colors. We used poster color paints. It took longer than expected but the results are awesome! We also tried using salt and watercolor but it kinda failed. Oh well. We’ll do our best next time.

We also did some pastel flowers.

Overall, I was glad I did the arts and crafts class. I loved the time I spent with the kids and it totally brought out my daughter’s creative side. I have to say, this was a summer well spent with my Heaven.
