On Cancer

My family have had deaths due to cancer. My aunt, Tita Rozanne had colon cancer and my uncle Tito Jim had lung cancer. They both passed away in the arms of their loved ones at ages of 60 something. I never truly understood how sunch an afliction can be that terrible until recently.

My sister Anna, was not feeling well. she went to see the doctor and was diagnosed with severe anemia. However, additional tests showed something much more horrible was going on with her. Later on, we found out that she had acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

As per the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society:

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a cancer of the bone marrow and blood that progresses rapidly without treatment. That’s why it’s important to start treatment soon after diagnosis.

The treatment is chemotherapy. This is the best way to manage the aggressive attack of cancer cells to her body. However, my family decided to try a different approach. An alternative treatment that includes alteringmy sister’s lifestyle, eating habits and more. The main purpose is to boost her immune system and strengthen her body to keep the cancer cells from spreading.

Although I have my qualms on the alternative procedure, the final decision is with Anna. We are all keeping our faith in God despite this challenge. There’s a bigger plan here for my sister and although I am riddled with fear and sadness, I can only hope and pray that a miracle happens.
